Smart Glass & Smart Film FAQs

Smart glass (also known as switchable glass or privacy glass) uses Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology. When an electrical current is applied, the liquid crystals align and the glass becomes transparent. When the power is turned off, the crystals scatter light and the glass turns frosted for instant privacy.

When powered on, smart glass looks transparent just like normal glass — up to 95% optical clarity for switchable glass and up to 90% for smart film. When the power is removed, it turns frosted.

No. In frosted mode the glass becomes translucent: it blocks the view but still lets daylight through, reducing light by up to around 78%.

Smart glass windows have a switchable film laminated between two glass sheets. They turn from frosted to clear on command and also offer sound-dampening and heat-blocking properties.

Standard PDLC smart glass defaults to its frosted state when power is off, so your space stays private even during a power failure.

Measure the height and width of each glass panel and add 20mm to each for installation tolerance, then multiply to get the area. Add the areas of all panels together for the total. Our team will confirm exact sizes during the free site visit.

Smart film is often installed the same day. Switchable glass and glass partition projects are scheduled after measurement and fabrication — most office partitions are installed within 5–7 working days.

Smart glass and smart film are water resistant but not waterproof. For bathrooms, showers and spas we offer wet-area rated switchable glass designed for high-humidity spaces.
